Cochrane Iran and the Islamic Republic of Iran Medical Council (IRIMC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce achievements of both parties, implement joint training activities, and enhance the evidence- based practice in Iran.
This MoU helps both Cochrane Iran and IRIMC to meet their strategic plans and work towards the dissemination of Cochrane products and its use in practice.
A number of joint activities have already been defined, including:
· The collaboration and information sharing of both organizations’ products will be strengthened.
· Training will be provided by Cochrane Iran. This may include continuing education through workshops/lectures at IRIMC congress and seminars.
· Joint advocacy efforts to raise the profile of evidence-informed health decision-making will be developed.
This collaboration, which occured in the 2nd anniversary of Cochrane Iran, builds on the homogeneity of stakeholders of Cochrane and IRIMC. Both organizations believe in evidence-based practice. Further, it is essential to reduce uncertainty by using evidence-based methodology in retrieving, assessment and summarising evidence. This in turn will lead to better informed choices by practitioners, policy makers and patients; and will ultimately lead to better health outcomes.
“IRIMC is the largest independent organization of health care providers in Iran” said Alireza Salimi, Deputy of Education and Research, IRIMC. “Cochrane Iran has been instrumental in the development of translation of Cochrane reviews (abstracts) in Farsi and it could be the valuable resource for health care providers as well as patients who their preference are Farsi resources.”
‘’The formal collaboration will enhance integration of clinical experience and patient values with the best available research information” said Ali Akbar Haghdoost, Director of Cochrane Iran. “Sometimes the recommendations by the healthcare providers are not based on sound evidence and therefore patients may not only benefit the result but also experience harm.”
The best-selling book in Persian entitled “Systematic Review and Meta_Analysis”, which is updated by contribution and support of Cochrane Iran has been dedicated to IRIMC.
Cochrane Iran looks forward to working alongside IRIMC in strengthening evidence-informed health decisions.
